Introduction
Setting Up Your Editor
You need just two free things to write HTML: a code editor and a web browser.
1. Install VS Code
- Download Visual Studio Code from
code.visualstudio.com. - Install it with the default options.
- Open it and create a new folder for your project, e.g.
my-website.
2. Useful extensions
| Extension | Why |
|---|---|
| Live Server | Opens your page in the browser and reloads it automatically every time you save. |
| Prettier | Formats your code neatly with one shortcut. |
| Auto Rename Tag | When you rename an opening tag, it renames the closing tag too. |
3. A browser with DevTools
Chrome, Edge and Firefox all have Developer Tools. Press F12 (or right-click > Inspect) to see the HTML of any page and experiment with it live.
