Introduction

Installing Python

  • Go to python.org/downloads and download the latest Python 3.
  • Run the installer. On Windows, tick "Add python.exe to PATH" before clicking Install. This is very important.
  • Open a terminal (Command Prompt or PowerShell) and check that it worked:
python --version

Output

Python 3.12.4

Install VS Code

  • Download VS Code from code.visualstudio.com.
  • Install the official Python extension by Microsoft.
  • Create a file called hello.py and click the ▶ Run button.
