HTML Tables

Colspan and Rowspan

A cell can stretch across several columns with colspan, or several rows with rowspan.

colspan

<table>
  <tr>
    <th colspan="2">Student</th>
    <th>Marks</th>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td>Ali</td>
    <td>Khan</td>
    <td>85</td>
  </tr>
</table>

The "Student" header covers two columns: first name and last name.

<table>
  <tr>
    <th rowspan="2">Monday</th>
    <td>HTML</td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td>CSS</td>
  </tr>
</table>

"Monday" covers two rows, so the second row only needs one <td>.
